Microflex Insulated Flexible Pipe

MicrofleX pre-insulated flexible pipe system allows you to connect a boiler or plant room via underground pipe to the main building. Installation is quick and easy; Microflex copes very well with bends and curves in the runs and, unlike some other systems, you do not need to weld joins and connections. Microflex is ideal for smaller applications like carrying heat to a single house where the boiler room is a little way away, which is a common occurrence where you have a log gasification or pellet boiler in an outbuilding. Microflex is also ideal for larger district or community heating schemes where several houses are serviced by the one boiler. Here you would commonly run one heating loop or 'main' using Microflexc Duo pipe which has two pipes one of which you would use as to carry the hot water (the flow) and the other for the cooler returning water (the return). Each house then connects to the loop drawing off as much heat as is needed.

Microflex is very well insulated so heat losses are kept to a minimum. The outer diameter of the main pipe is 125mm with the two pipes housed within the insulation, with a choice of either 25mm or 32mm. As an example lets say that we are using a 10m run of Microflex duo pipe and two internal pipe 25mm water pipes. We use the pipe to supply heat to a house with a flow temperature of 70ºC and a return temperature of 40ºC and a ground temperature of 3ºC. The total heat loss would be around 520W/hr.

To install Microflex a 100mm layer of pea gravel is laid in the bottom of the trench, next comes the the Microflex, pea gravel to 150mm over the Microflex, warning tape and then fill in the trench. If vehicles will be driving over the trench then the overall depth should be around 1100mm, if not then 700mm. Even though the corrugated dual layer outer casing of Microflex is flexible it is still very stable and tough; you would have a job on your hands to crush or damage it.

You do not have to run Microflex underground, another application is for surface runs inside old buildings such as a barn or workshop where you need a tough, very well insulated pipe.

The Microflex internal carrier pipes are stable, corrosion resistant, can take temperatures up to 95ºC. The carrier pipes are made from PE-Xa, a high density, cross-linked polyethylene inherently resistant to chemical corrosion, able to withstand high temperatures and with a non-permeable membrane to stop oxygen ingress.

Here we have simple to use Microflex underground insulated pipe packs. Each pack consists of a roll of Microflex pipe with a 125mm outer diameter pipe. They come in 10, 15, 20 or 25m lengths and have 4 pipe couplings, 2 dust caps and instructions. The couplings allow you to connect up to your systems at either end and give you a solid fixing points. Each length of Microflex has two inner pipes for your flow and return in a choice of either 25mm inner diameter or 32mm inner diameter. The prices include mainland UK pallet delivery. Highlands and Island at a surcharge.
