what is a smoke control stove?
The 1956 Clean Air Act is a very successful piece of legislation designed to combat urban smogs. Most towns and cities were designated smoke control areas where only approved appliances could be used to burn fuels which were not classed as smokeless (for example wood). A smoke control stove is a stove which can be used in a smoke control area to burn a specified fuel (often wood). A smoke control stove is efficient and has low particulate emissions. A smoke control stove will have an air supply that cannot be completely shut down which means that a smoke control stove cannot be slumber burnt or burnt overnight. Slumber or overnight burning is one of the most inefficient form of burning and results in high particluate levels.
