Pot hanger cowls a pot hanger cowl is used where you do not want to remove the existing chimney pot. The cowl is fitted to the liner, the liner and insulation are then lowered into the chimney and the pot hanger cowl then rests on top of the chimney pot taking the weight. The pot hanger cowl also stops rain entry. I would say that removing the pot, using the closing plate and fixing clamp, then replacing the pot is the better method, but takes more time of course.
